An Indianapolis-based ag technology company has hit a major growth point for its precision spray system. Smart Guided Systems has reached a distribution agreement with John Deere (NYSE: DE), which will include the sale and support of the technology through its dealer network in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

As part of the agreement, Smart Guided Systems’ Smart-Apply Intelligent Spray Control System, which John Deere says is compatible with its tractors, will be made available to customers.

The system is an add-on kit for air-blast sprayers towed behind John Deere tractors. The company says the technology can reduce the potential for chemical drift and help reduce the amount of product being used.

“The agreement gives our customers access to an innovative, field-proven precision-spraying control system for use in high value specialty crops through a proven distribution channel,” said Steve Booher, chief executive officer of Smart Guided Systems.

Smart Guided Systems says the technology was based on similar systems from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which gave its stamp of approval in 2018.
