An Indianapolis-based subsidiary of Learning Technologies Group plc in the United Kingdom has acquired Baltimore-based eThink Education. Open LMS, which bills itself as the largest commercial Moodle provider in the world, says the deal will help expand its presence in North America.
Moodle is an open-source learning platform designed to provide teachers the ability to create personalized learning environments.
eThink Education provides implementation, integration, management, and cloud-hosting services for Moodle and other platforms. As part of the deal, Open LMS will integrate eThink into its platform.
“The pandemic has drastically increased the need for effective online teaching and learning programs for thousands of education institutions and corporations worldwide.” said Phillip Miller, managing director for Open LMS. “With the integration of eThink, which is a strong business delivering high levels of growth and profitability alongside peerless customer service, we can further support those who need a fully-functional, open-source solution to manage courses and deliver engaging content experiences at anytime and anywhere.”
Additionally, nearly 40 eThink employees will join the Open LMS team. eThink founders Brian Carlson and Cheryl Patsavos will continue in their new roles of head of sales and head of customer success, respectively.
Open LMS says with the addition of eThink, it will serve more than 1,460 clients and eight million users across more than 100 countries.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
