Indy bicycle organizations merge, name executive director

Two Indianapolis-based bicycle organizations have merged and named a new leader.
Bike Indianapolis and the Central Indiana Bicycling Association, or CIBA, have not yet announced the name of the newly combined organization but have tapped Anthony Cherolis to serve as executive director.
Cherolis has previously served as a communications and development consultant for the nonprofit New Haven Coalition for Active Transportation in Connecticut, according to his LinkedIn profile.
In a news release, Cherolis called working with CIBA and Bike Indianapolis his dream job.
“Central Indiana benefits in so many ways when more people ride bikes,” he said. “From public health to environmental stewardship, bicycles improve our world. While we’re having fun, we can all work together to make our streets and crosswalks safe for all road users. I can’t wait to meet you on a ride.”
CIBA is a nonprofit bicycling club focused on getting more residents to ride bikes through organized rides, bicycle events and related activities, according to the organization’s website.
Bike Indianapolis works with city officials and other organizations to ensure the city’s public facilities are bicycle friendly.
Jyoti Verderame, president of the combined organization said the group is excited for Cherolis to come on board.
“[Tony] brings all the elements of a strong organizational leader as we grow the premier cycling organization in Central Indiana,” Verderame said. “His passion for and knowledge of cycling will help us achieve our goals of hosting unforgettable rides, advocating for laws and infrastructure that make roads safer, and educating road users in ways that reduce injuries and fatalities.”
Cherolis will begin his new role on April 1.
