Will Power helped unveil the latest addition to the iconic trophy Wednesday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.
Power’s face appears in sterling silver as the 105th likeness on the trophy, which was first commissioned in 1935. The mini sculpture was made by Will Behrends, who has created the last 29 likenesses on the trophy, and attended the unveiling ceremony for the first time.
"That’s incredible when you think about some of the legendary names that are on there," Power said. "Thank you, Will. It’s an amazing image. It looks like me, so that’s good. You actually kind of improved my face a bit, so that’s not too bad because it’s there for life."
Power won his first Indy 500 in May edging out fan favorite Ed Carpenter and former winner Scott Dixon to take the checkered flag. Power earned $2.52 million for his performance and would go on to win the 2018 IndyCar Series Championship.
