The Indiana Department of Transportation will rename a section of U.S. 52 in Tippecanoe County for Indiana's most decorated Olympian. Our partners at WBAA in West Lafayette report the stretch will be named for Ray Ewry, who was born in Lafayette and attended Purdue University.

Ewry won eight gold medals in the early 1900s in track and field events including the standing long jump, standing triple jump and standing high jump. His eight gold medals tie him for sixth all-time internationally. He was born in Lafayette and graduated from Purdue University.

The stretch that will be named after Ewry is on U.S. 52 and 231 between Martin Jischke Drive and Lindberg Road.
