Nearly $90.3 million of the $155.6 million awarded will go toward improving or replacing 32 bridges rated in poor condition, INDOT said in a news release. Among the funding awards are more than $7 million to Lebanon for a bridge project on Noble Street, more than $7 million to Boone County for a bridge project on County Road 300S and more than $7 million to Allen County for a bridge project on Ferguson Road.

Indiana ranks No. 16 in the nation with 1,018 structurally deficient bridges, according to a 2023 report by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.
In addition to the new bridge projects, the federal funding will go toward road reconstruction, traffic safety projects and sidewalks, trails and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps, INDOT said. Among the funding awards was more than $16 million to Montgomery County for an intersection improvement.
INDOT dedicates about 25% of its federal highway funds to supporting local projects each year, the news release said. Communities must contribute at least 20% in local matching funds and meet other federal requirements to receive the funding.
