The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded nearly $102 million in matching funds as part of the Community Crossings program. More than 200 cities, towns and counties throughout the state will use the funds for local road projects.

In order to qualify for funding, local governments were required to provide local matching funds of 50% for larger communities or 25% for smaller communities. Additionally, they had to submit an INDOT-approved asset management plan for maintaining existing roads and bridges.

“Community Crossings is one of the most important tools available to our local partners to support their efforts to improve local roads and bridges,” INDOT Commissioner Joe McGuinness said in a news release. “Rebuilding and improving local roads, while also addressing safety needs, promotes growth and enhances the business environment and quality of place across Indiana.”

INDOT says Community Crossings has awarded more than $1 billion in state matching funds since its inception in 2016. The next call for projects to receive funding through the program is slated for January.
