Indianapolis International Airport regains 2 nonstop flights

After a five-year hiatus, Southwest Airlines will resume a nonstop flight between Indianapolis and Chicago.
The route to Chicago’s Midway International Airport debuts Tuesday, and flights will depart twice daily, year-round.
“The Midway route gives Hoosier travelers more regional access, and more flexibility when flying into Chicago,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, said in a written statement. “This route is also going to serve both business and leisure travel with more convenience, access and connectivity across the country and beyond.”
Currently, the airline offers nonstops from Indianapolis to destinations including Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Dallas and Houston, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; Baltimore, Maryland; San Diego, California; and Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and Tampa, Florida. Southwest also offers an international nonstop flight from Indianapolis to Cancún, Mexico.
That’s not the only nonstop route resuming service from Indianapolis.
Delta Airlines will resume its pre-pandemic route from the Circle City to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, on Aug. 11. Flights will depart twice weekly.
“Raleigh-Durham is a highly sought-after route for our business community,” Marsha Wurster, senior director of commercial enterprise, said in a written statement. “Eli Lilly maintains a significant presence there and is growing in the area. That’s in addition to the NCAA committing to Cary, North Carolina, for future championship games, and there is a growing tech industry connecting both the Raleigh-Durham area and central Indiana.”
Since 2020, Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. has committed hundreds of millions of dollars to establishing a presence in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park, including a $474 million manufacturing campus.
Currently, Delta offers nonstops from Indianapolis to destinations including Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; New York City; Orlando, Florida; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Like Southwest, Delta also offers nonstop service from Indianapolis to Cancún, Mexico.
