Indiana Work to be Consolidated Due to Mitchell Investment

Subscribe NowA spokesman with Texas-based Lehigh Hanson Inc. says a $600 million modernization investment in one part of the state will negatively impact operations at another. Director of Corporate Communications Jeff Sieg tells Inside INdiana Business once the new plant is functional in Mitchell, the company plans to end cement and clinker production at Speed Cement Plant and Terminal in Sellersburg. Around 100 jobs could be affected in Clark County in about four years.
The new Lehigh Cement Co. plant in Lawrence County is expected to create more than 50 jobs once it goes online. "Opportunities at the Mitchell plant will be available for interested and qualified candidates," Sieg said. "We are committed to treating our employees at Speed in a fair manner and we will offer impacted employees transition benefits and outplacement assistance."
Once production functions end in Sellersburg, the company says the Speed facility will continue to serves as a distribution terminal and produce colored masonry products.
