Indiana unemployment ticks up in May

Despite the drop, Indiana still has gained 66,500 jobs compared to this time last year, the DWD said. Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,837,600.
The DWD said Indiana saw gains in the professional and business services; private educational and health services; and financial activities sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate held steady at 63.6% in May and remains above the national rate, which also stayed at 62.6%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,426,738, up nearly 3,400 from the previous month.
The DWD said the state had 124,313 open job postings as of June 1, while 14,478 unemployment insurance claims were filed.
The state’s unemployment rate remains below the national rate, which rose three-tenths of a percent to 3.7%.
