Indiana unemployment ticks down again in February

Indiana’s unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percent to 4.3% in February. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that along with the decrease, the state lost 3,300 private sector jobs in the same month.
February was the second consecutive month that the unemployment rate decreased.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,825,200 jobs. Indiana primarily job gains in the construction and trade, transportation and utilities sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate stayed flat at 63.8%, higher than the national rate, which fell two-tenths of a percent to 62.4%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,487,942, according to the DWD.
The DWD said the state had 85,212 open job postings as of March 4, while 26,542 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending March 1.
The state’s unemployment rate remains higher than the national rate, which rose one-tenth of a percent to 4.1%.
