Indiana unemployment drops again in March

Indiana’s unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a percent to 4.1% in March. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state also added 9,200 private sector jobs in the same month.
March was the third consecutive month that the unemployment rate decreased.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,834,600. Indiana primarily saw job gains in the manufacturing; leisure and hospitality; trade, transportation, and utilities; financial activities; professional and business services; and construction sectors.
The state’s labor force participate rate dropped slightly to 63.7%, higher than the national rate, which rose one-tenth of a percent to 62.5%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,484,094, according to the DWD.
The DWD said the state had 89,919 open job postings as of April 1, while 24,235 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending March 29.
The state’s unemployment rate is now lower than the national rate, which rose one-tenth of a percent to 4.2%.
