Indiana unemployment drops again in June

Indiana’s unemployment rate fell one-tenth of a percent to 3.6% in June. Despite the drop, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state lost 3,900 private sector jobs in the same month.
June was the sixth consecutive month that the state’s unemployment rate decreased.
The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,844,300. Indiana primarily saw job gains in the professional and business services; private educational and health services; and trade, transportation and utilities sectors.
The state’s labor force participation rate stayed flat at 63.7%, higher than the national rate, which fell one-tenth of a percent to 62.3%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,489,938, according to the DWD.
The DWD said the state had 86,381 open job postings as of June 30, while 20,694 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending July 5.
The state’s unemployment rate remains lower than the national rate, which also fell one-tenth of a percent to 4.1%.
