Indiana to Update Rail Plan
The Indiana Department of Transportation is updating the state rail plan to guide the improvement of the 4,900 miles of freight and passenger rail lines throughout the state.
INDOT says federal law requires an update every four years. The last plan was released in 2017.
The agency says an online survey will be made available to the public this fall to allow for feedback. INDOT will also meet with public and private sector rail users over the next several months.
According to state data, more than 120 million tons of commodities are shipped to or from Indiana by rail each year.
