Eleven Indiana school districts have been awarded Ready Schools grants from Regional Opportunity Initiatives. Six schools received development grants and five others were given implementation grants, totaling more than $2.3 million.

The initiative helps districts within the Indiana Uplands, an 11-county area including Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen and Washington Counties. “Our region is home to amazing cultural and economic assets; however, we continue to see a need for qualified employees in our key industry sectors,” said ROI Chief Executive Officer Tina Peterson. “The Ready Schools initiative is a concerted effort to begin addressing this issue by helping schools, industry, and communities work collaboratively to develop both short- and long term strategies that prepare young people for career opportunities right here in our region as we develop the pipeline of talent necessary to ensure employers and communities thrive.”

Schools receiving development grants include: Bloomfield School District, Monroe County Community School Corporation, SpencerOwen Community Schools, and a collaboration of Mitchell, Orleans, and Shoals Community Schools. The grants will support a process to design re-alignment of curriculum and program offerings over the next ten months.

The other six districts have completed their 10 month design process and are now receiving implementation grants. Those schools include: Loogootee Community Schools, and a collaboration of the four school districts in Dubois County: Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools, Northeast Dubois County School Corporation, Southwest Dubois County School Corporation and Southeast Dubois County School Corporation.
