Supported by Ascension/St. Vincent Salem, the school now has a telehealth clinic available to its students and staff.
The school is located in Pekin, Indiana which has a population of about 1,410 and is located in a rural area of southeast Indiana near the Kentucky border.
The students and staff at East Washington Elementary will now be able to see a doctor or medical provider through a video-conference. The clinic uses a digital stethoscope and other technology sensory tools to help a linking provider make a diagnosis. School nurses and related staff have received several hours of training on how to operate the equipment.
“Having critical access to healthcare professionals at St. Vincent means we can deliver a broader range of services during the school day to our more than 500 elementary students and staff at East Washington,” said Amy Green, school nurse in a news release. “This exciting technology will provide a full spectrum of benefits for our children from rural areas.”
