A two-star general with the Indiana National Guard has retired. Maj. Gen. Ivan Denton, who served as commander at Camp Atterbury from 2012-2014, will transition to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service in Washington D.C. A native of Paoli, Denton began his service with the Indiana National Guard in 1982. The Guard says Denton was one of 850 men to conduct a combat parachute assault on the International Airport in Panama during Operation Just Cause. He also served in multiple assignments in Iraq. Denton has received a number of decorations and awards during his career, including the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Parachutist Badge, Legion of Merit and Bronze Star. During a retirement ceremony at Camp Atterbury, Denton received the Sagamore of The Wabash and the Legion of Hoosier Heroes award. The latter was presented by his nephew, Lt. Col. Andrew Weaver, who also serves with the Indiana National Guard.
