Indiana, Manitoba Sign MOU on Agriculture

Subscribe NowOfficials from the departments of agriculture in Indiana and the Canadian province of Manitoba have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in an effort to grow the agriculture sectors of both regions. The agreement was signed during an Indiana delegation’s trip to Manitoba, which continues through Wednesday.
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture says, as part of the MOU, the two parties agree to facilitate cooperation in areas such as agricultural research and development, youth education and leadership, and trade investment. It will also allow the regions to encourage stronger partnerships among researchers, innovation leaders, businesses, and young farmers.
"This agreement lays the groundwork to establishing a long-term cooperative relationship between Indiana and Manitoba," said Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch, who is leading the delegation. "We look forward to the abundant opportunities this new partnership affords, especially in the area of agricultural economic development, and are excited about what the future holds for our two economies."
The signing of the MOU also involved Manitoba Minister of Agriculture Ralph Eichler. The delegation also met with the province’s Deputy Premier Heather Stefanson, Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade Blaine Peterson and Eichler to discuss the trade relationship between the two regions, which totaled $1.1 billion in two-way trade last year.
The remainder of the delegation’s trip will include business roundtables with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the Business Council of Manitoba, as well as visits and meets with various agricultural facilities in the province.
