Subaru of America Inc., the marketing and distribution unit of Subaru Corp. of Japan, says it sold more cars in August than any other month in its history. North American Subaru production is handled at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. in Lafayette, where Legacy, Outback, Impreza and next year, Ascent models are made. Sales of Impreza and Outback were up in August by more than 40 percent and 17 percent, respectively, while sales of the Legacy were down over 27 percent.
Subaru says it has recorded 69 consecutive months of yearly, month-over-month growth. In August, Subaru reports the sale of 63, 215 vehicles, a nearly 5 percent increase from the same month last year and 38 sales higher than the previous record set in December of last year. Year-to-date, the 423,728 vehicle sales is more than 8 percent higher than sales were at this point in 2016.
Subaru of America Inc. President Thomas Doll says "given the overall auto industry conditions, these sales results point to the continued strength of the Subaru brand."
SIA in Lafayette currently employs more than 5,400 associates.
