The executive board of Indiana Landmarks has approved the $110,000 acquisition of the historic Owen Block building in Evansville. The organization has reached its target of $40,000 in private donations. The larger effort to secure $440,000 to cover acquisition and renovation costs is three-quarters of the way complete.

A local group has taken up the cause by creating “blockhead” t-shirts with a depiction of the building as a way to boost donations.

The building was constructed in the early 1880s and has fallen in disrepair due to years of neglect. It was set for demolition before Landmarks and several local contributors stepped in to save it.
