The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $32 million to housing authorities throughout the state. The funds are awarded to help build, repair, renovate or modernize public housing.

The grants are being provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program. The department says the funding can be used to complete large-scale improvements, including roof replacements and energy-efficient upgrades to plumbing and electrical systems.

"In Indiana, the Capital Fund Program will help ensure that families and seniors are residing in public housing that is decent, safe and in good repair to build a better life," said Joseph Galvan, Midwest regional administrator for HUD. "It is part of HUD’s mission to protect consumers and meet the need for quality affordable homes for all and help provide a springboard to opportunity."
