Indiana Food Summit Returns to Indy

A two-day event at IUPUI aims to create a food system in Indiana that is "more resilient, economically vibrant and diverse." Purdue Extension is hosting the second annual Indiana Food Summit, which runs Monday and Tuesday.

Jodee Elliot, local foods coordinator and event organizer with Purdue Extension, says the summit will give attendees learning, networking and sharing opportunities. Participants will include anyone who works in the food system, from business people to elected officials.

"We hope participants will not only take away new tools, but also be inspired to implement innovative new strategies in their communities," said Elliot. “Re-localizing food systems takes a lot of time in building networks and relationships. We have created an entire day of professional development workshops and will also have regional networking luncheons so you can meet people from your area you might not know."

Purdue says participants will also be able to submit a brief summary of their activities over the past year to share with others. The professional development workshops will include speakers such as Mark Winnie, senior adviser to the Center for a Livable Future at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, Tera Johnson, director of the Food Finance Institute at the University of Wisconsin Extension Division of Business & Entrepreneurship, and Kara Lubischer, University of Missouri Extension state specialist.
