The state moved up one spot from last year and is top-ranked in the Midwest.
Indiana ranks fifth on this year’s list, which measures factors including tax and regulations, work force quality and living environment. The state ranks third in the nation in work force quality, tenth in tax and regulatory policy and seventeenth in living environment.
In a release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp., Governor Mike Pence said, "This ranking confirms what we in the Hoosier state already know to be true – that Indiana holds the line on spending, maintains strong reserves and keeps the cost of doing business affordable through record tax cuts."
News of the ranking comes just days after Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) announced plans to grow its regional headquarters in Indianapolis and create up to 800 jobs. Once the expansion is complete, the IEDC estimates it will generate up to $122.7 million annually toward Indiana’s GDP.
