Indiana communities to receive $1.5M to support home repair program

Four Indiana communities will receive a total of more than $1.5 million in federal grants to establish programs to help low- and moderate-income homeowners make needed repairs.
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs says once established in each community, the Owner Occupied Rehabilitation grant program will fund eligible repairs such as roof repair or replacement, accessibility improvements, heating and cooling replacement, lighting and electrical upgrades, and water heater replacement.
“These grants are about more than just fixing homes — they’re about strengthening communities,” Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said in a news release. “When we take care of the small things, like repairing roofs or upgrading heating systems, we’re sending a message that every home and every family matters. This approach helps prevent larger issues down the road and fosters pride and stability in our neighborhoods.”
- Franklin, about 21 miles south of Indianapolis in Johnson County, was awarded $350,000.
- Greensburg, about 47 miles southeast of Indianapolis in Decatur County, was awarded $350,000.
- Union City, about 78 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Randolph County, was awarded $350,000.
- Huntington County, about 15 miles southeast of Fort Wayne, was awarded $500,000.
“The Owner Occupied Rehabilitation grant program can be crucial for homeowners who may need extra support from their community in order to make needed improvements to maintain their safety in their home,” OCRA Executive Director Fred Glynn said.
Funding for the program comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant program.
