Indiana communities awarded $200M for road, bridge projects

The Indiana Department of Transportation this week awarded more than $200 million in matching grants for local road and bridge projects throughout the state.

The funding from the state’s Community Crossings program will support projects in 245 cities, towns and counties.

“Improving and maintaining roads and bridges at all levels is crucial for enhancing quality of life and public safety for Hoosiers,” Gov. Mike Braun said in a news release. “Communities across the state need investment in their local infrastructure and we are pleased to partner with them to make necessary improvements.”

The program, which was established in 2016, has awarded more than $2 billion in funding since its inception. Funding for the program comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund, INDOT said.
