Top Fulbright Producers List Includes Indiana Colleges

A national publication has compiled a list of U.S. institutions producing the most Fulbright scholars and students for the 2016-2017 academic year and four Indiana colleges made the cut. The Chronicle of High Education says the University of Notre Dame has the most award recipients in the state.

The data for the list come from the Institute of International Education Inc. and the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The program is the flagship international exchange program of the U.S. government and involves a one-year postgraduate fellowship abroad. Some 1,900 people are awarded scholarships each year.

Notre Dame Flatley Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement Associate Director Jeffrey Thibert says  "the unprecedented prominence of the University of Notre Dame on this year’s list of Fulbright U.S. Student Program Top Producing Institutions is a testament to the exceptional students admitted through the Office of Admissions and the Graduate School, the excellent globally oriented education that Notre Dame provides, and the outstanding programs and mentoring offered by units such as Notre Dame International, the Keough School of Global Affairs, Notre Dame Research, the Center for Social Concerns and the many faculty members who engage with international research and education in their work."

DePauw President Mark McCoy says "the empowering experiences our students enjoy through Fulbrights are part of the exploratory and experiential opportunities that are part of the fabric of DePauw. It says much for our students and our institution that we are perennially listed among the leading schools in making these life-changing possibilities to live and learn abroad a reality for our undergraduates."
