By Andy Ober
Indiana Colleges Among ‘Best For Sports Lovers’ DePauw University and Wabash College have played 123 times in the Monon Bell Classic.

The University of Notre Dame is near the top of a national list of the 100 Best Colleges For Sports Lovers. In all, three universities in Indiana are among the top 100 in the rankings compiled by Money Magazine and Sports Illustrated.

Notre Dame ranks second on the list, with the magazines citing 50 former Irish players in major professional leagues and an average attendance at football games of more than 80,000. They also mention an athlete graduation rate of 98 percent and national championships spanning several sports.

DePauw University ranks 48th. The school’s football team is part of one of college football’s oldest rivalries. DePauw and Wabash College have played 123 times in the Monon Bell Classic, which now airs nationwide.

Indiana University ranks 69th. The school recently unveiled a $150 million renovation to Assembly Hall. That project was supported by a $40 million gift from Cindy Simon Skjodt, which is the largest gift in IU athletics history.

The top five schools in the rankings are:

1. Stanford University
2. The University of Notre Dame
3. University of Michigan
4. Duke University
5. University of Virginia
