Kevin Brinegar

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce has announced the long-term retirement plans of its president and chief executive officer. Kevin Brinegar, who has led the organization for 20 years, is set to retire in January 2024.

The chamber says the extended timeframe is at the request of its executive committee.

“Under Kevin’s guidance, the Indiana Chamber has become one of the top chambers of commerce in the nation by any measure. When it comes to public policy, the state’s business climate has never been better,” said John Thompson, Indiana Chamber chairman of the board. “Kevin is so passionate about the Chamber’s mission and working on behalf of the business community, but the pull toward the next phase of life came calling. I couldn’t be happier for him personally and for the strong position of the Chamber today under his leadership.”

Thompson says the chamber board will form a search committee to find Brinegar’s successor. The committee will select a firm to help conduct the open, national search.

“Leading the Chamber has been the perfect job for me – allowing me to use my prior experience in state government and passion for public policy on behalf of the business community to promote prosperity and economic opportunity for the people and enterprises of Indiana,” said Brinegar. “Indiana is a much better place to do business, grow jobs and raise families than it was at the turn of the century. For those accomplishments, I am most proud.”

Brinegar says he plans to conduct “business as usual” for the chamber throughout 2022 and 2023.
