The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has unveiled the 2019 Corvette Grand Sport as the official pace car for this year’s Indianapolis 500. The announcement marks the 16th time a Corvette has served as the pace car for the race.

It is also the 30th time a Chevrolet vehicle has led the field, dating back to 1948. In addition to the pace car, IMS says 33 2019 Corvette Stingrays will travel the roads of central Indiana and in the 500 Festival Parade the day before the race.

"We continue to be grateful for our long-running partnership with Chevrolet," said IMS President Doug Boles. "Personally, there is nothing quite like driving an Indianapolis 500 Chevrolet Corvette around Indiana in May, and I know our fans also will enjoy seeing the Corvette Stingray festival cars around town throughout the Month of May."

IMS says the Corvette Grand Sport has the ability to go from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds.

The announcement of the pace car and festival cars adds to a long history between Chevy and IMS. The automaker was founded in 1911, the year of the inaugural Indy 500 and its co-founder Louis Chevrolet competed in several early Indy 500 races.
