Each of the 18 holes on the course is inspired by the state’s history, heritage and landmarks, according to the museum.
The museum received proposals for each hole over the winter and the final hole designs were selected by IMA staff and consultants Robin Schwartzman and Tom Loftus. Two of the holes were selected from the 2016 Herron Open, but the rest of the holes are unique to the IMA course.
"Mini Golf at the IMA is an unexpected juxtaposition of art exhibition and whimsical sport, offering an engaging experience for the entire family," said Scott Stulen, exhibition curator and the IMA’s curator of audience experiences and performance. "The course features new work by local and regional artists taking playful riffs on the rich history of Indiana and creating pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and fun to play. Our hope is that the exhibition attracts new audiences, reinforcing the IMA as a place for a diverse array of cultural experiences—some of which involve a putter and scorecard."
Some of the holes represent events that occurred throughout Indiana’s 200-year history, as well as famous Hoosiers and Indiana landmarks. The course also features a clubhouse where players can get refreshments from King David Dogs and Sun King Brewery.
The course will open to IMA members Friday and will be open to the public May 10 through October 30. You can find more info on the course and each individual hole by clicking here.
