IKEA says it is continuing its commitment to sustainability at its new location in Fishers. The Swedish retailer has announced plans to install three electric vehicle charging stations at the store, which is set to open this fall.
IKEA is working with Florida-based Car Charging Group Inc. to install the Blink EV charging stations outside of the $40 million, 289,000 square-foot store. The Fishers location will be the 30th IKEA store in the United States to include Blink EV charging units.
"Installing EV charging stations at the future IKEA Fishers reinforces our commitment to sustainability," said Holly Davidson, store manager. "As a retailer, IKEA realizes that a focus on the sustainable transport of people can help empower customers to live sustainably. So, meeting the needs of EV drivers in Indiana helps achieve both goals."
The retailer says drivers can use their Blink InCard on the reader below the charging station’s screen, use their Blink Mobile app or use a guest code provided by the app to use the stations. You can find more info on becoming a Blink member to use the charging stations by clicking here.
The addition of the charging stations follows IKEA’s previous announcement that the Fishers location will also include the largest solar rooftop in Indiana. The 219,000 square-foot, 1.34 megawatt solar array will include nearly 4,000 solar panels.
Officials broke ground on the massive store in October.
