IEA says the award is for the construction of a 302-megawatt wind farm, capable of producing electricity for more than 83,000 homes.
The company says construction began in late August and is expected to be complete by November 2021. IEA says its subsidiary, White Construction, will handle the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.
According to the American Wind Energy Association, Indiana ranks 12th in total wind capacity. The 1,000 turbines in the state produce about 2,300 MW of energy.
“There continues to be a strong demand for wind construction,” said JP Roehm, IEA president and chief executive officer. “Wind installations in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2020 were the highest second quarter of installations on record. This momentum has continued into the third quarter.”
Roehm says Indiana now has more than 1,100 MW of new wind energy capacity under construction or in advanced stages of development.
Last October, Northern Indiana Public Service Co., a subsidiary of Merrillville-based NiSource (NYSE: NI), and Texas-based EDP Renewables North America LLC announced a joint effort to construct a 302-megawatt wind farm in White County.
EDP Renewables said around 80 wind turbines would be built at the Indiana Crossroads Wind Farm.
