IDOE Names Presidential Award Finalists

The Indiana Department of Education has named the 2016-2017 state finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The eight finalists will move to the national level, where the winners will receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
The IDOE says the Presidential Awards are the highest honors math and science teachers can receive in the nation. In addition to the NSF award, the winners will receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States and a trip to Washington D.C. to attend recognition events and professional development opportunities.
"Proficiency in mathematics and science is vital to a well-rounded education," said Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick. "We recognize the educators who dedicate themselves to excellence in these subjects and I am extremely proud of our Indiana finalists. They represent our state well."
The Indiana finalists for Math include:
- Sean Bird – Covenant Christian High School, Indianapolis
- David Ferris – Noblesville High School
- Diane Rodriguez – Bloomfield Jr./Sr. High School
- Richard Ziuchkovski – Anderson High School
The Indiana finalists for Science:
- John Gensic – Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation
- Kirstin Milks – Bloomington High School South
- Stacie Stoffregen – Greencastle Middle School
- Robyn Witty – Roncalli High School
The finalists will take part in an honor and recognition luncheon this fall.
