Just under a year ago, Aunt Millie’s Bakeries announced it was relocating its corporate headquarters on Pearl Street in downtown Fort Wayne to the former Star Bank headquarters.
One question remained at the time: What will happen to the iconic rotating bread sign that has been on the top of the building for nearly 70 years?
That question has been answered; the sign was taken down Wednesday by the building’s new owners, our partners at WPTA-TV reported.
The sign was installed atop the building at 350 Pearl Street in 1957 and has been a landmark of downtown Fort Wayne ever since. Melissa Koeneman, director of marketing for Aunt Millie’s told WPTA that the future of the iconic sign is not yet known.
Koeneman said the hope is to keep the sign in downtown Fort Wayne. If that isn’t possible, will be moved to the company’s new Bluffton Road headquarters.
“We are excited that the sign is being preserved,” Aunt Millie’s Executive Vice President of Quality and Brand Strategy Bohn Popp told WPTA. “We know it has been a part of so many great memories for generations of Fort Wayne residents, and we are committed to preserving the sign for future generations.”
Aunt Millie’s moved into the former Star Bank headquarters last spring to accommodate the company’s growth, official said.
