Vincennes University and Indianapolis-based Hurco Companies Inc. (Nasdaq: HURC) will announce a partnership Monday. Vincennes President Dick Helton says the effort is designed to help close the manufacturing skills gap and increase awareness of career options. Vincennes University President Dick Helton and the President of Hurco Companies, Inc., Gregory S. Volovic, will announce a partnership that will help close the skills gap in manufacturing and increase awareness of the many benefits a career in manufacturing provides, with special focus on the technological aspect of precision machining education.

Indiana manufacturers need skilled employees now – and more will be needed in the future.

* Indiana ranks #1 in the nation for the percentage of the population employed by the manufacturing sector (16.7%).[a]

* Indiana ranks #2 in the nation for the percentage of gross state product attributed to the manufacturing sector (26.7%).[a]

* The average starting salary for Vincennes University Precision Machining graduates is in the $40,000 to $50,000 range.[b]
