Hosts Turn Podcast Into Business

Subscribe NowIt’s easy to find podcasts on nearly any topic these days, however the creators behind one Indianapolis-based podcast have found a way to turn their hobby into a viable business. The Drink Culture Podcast, which spotlights entrepreneurs, thought leaders and creators in Indy, is celebrating a special declaration by the city.
The podcast was launched in April 2017 by hosts Fabian Rodriguez, Jared Byczko and Hayley Brown and originally centered around beer and whiskey, before evolving into a focus on experts in the food and beverage industry and later, to entrepreneurs and big names in other industries. The show has featured guests including Cafe Patachou founder Martha Hoover, ClusterTruck founder Chris Baggott and Powderkeg CEO Matt Hunckler.
In celebration of the podcast’s anniversary, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has proclaimed July 19 "Drink Culture Podcast Day" in Indy.
"We are extremely proud to be a trailblazer in the podcast industry by showcasing how a business based on people’s earbuds can make an impact on a community," Drink Culture’s Cole Shearer said in an email to Inside INdiana Business. "We are taking things beyond the earbuds and taking our podcast into the community. Having an official day in Indianapolis is a testament to our objective of fostering and highlighting the culture in the city. Not only are we proving podcasts can become sustainable businesses but we are advocates for our community."
Shearer says, in January, Drink Culture grew its team by more than 100 percent and last month, moved to a new studio home in Indy’s Fountain Square neighborhood. You can learn more about the podcast by clicking here.
