Steuben County-based Miller Poultry is planning a more than $13 million expansion. The company intends to add nearly three dozen employees to its existing 560-person work force over the next four years. May 12, 2015

News Release

ORLAND, Ind. – The Steuben County Council granted Pine Manor, Inc. (dba: Miller Poultry) a ten year tax abatement on an estimated $9 million in building expansion and $4.15 million in new machinery and equipment. The company estimated adding 34 new employees over the next four year to the existing 560 which are presently employed at the facility located south of Orland, on State Road 327. The Steuben County Council also approved compliance forms for the company’s 2011 tax abatement, at which time the company had 308 employees and estimated the creation of 10 new jobs.

Real estate additions include three separate building projects totaling over 90,000 square feet. The existing facilities total approximately 130,000 square feet, bringing the total building footprint upon completion to over 220,000 square feet. Equipment additions include an automatic blast freezing tunnel, weigh price machines, and automated packaging equipment.

The company’s chicks are hatched at their own hatchery and placed primarily on Amish family farms. The birds are raised inside naturally ventilated, curtain sided, houses and are free to roam on open floors. They are fed an all-vegetable, drug free diet and are hormone and antibiotic free. Locally, Miller Poultry products can be found in Super-Valu stores, Jamison Meats, Hills Meat Market, Albrights, Krogers/Scotts and other area retailers. Pine Manor, Inc. is a local, family-owned company established in 1942.

In addition to the tax deduction approved by the Steuben County Council with an estimated value of $450,000 over the next ten years, Miller Poultry received up to $150,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training assistance from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. Based on estimates from the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation, Miller Poultry is expected to pay an additional $435,000 in property taxes over the same ten year period. Miller Poultry has an annual payroll of nearly $18 million currently and is expected to grow by more than $1 million as the new jobs are added.
