One Indiana Macy’s location is among 45 set to close this year across the country. While the full list of closures has not yet been released, a spokesperson for the retailer tells our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana the store at College Mall in Bloomington is among those being shuttered.
Julianne Olivo tells the publication the retailer has no announcements to make regarding other Macy’s locations in Indiana. The full list of stores to be closed is set to be announced Wednesday, though no announcement has been made as of 11:15 a.m.
“After careful consideration, Macy’s has decided to close our College Mall location in Bloomington. This closure is part of the company’s strategy announced in early 2020,” Olivo said. “Regular, non-seasonal colleagues who we are unable to place at a nearby Macy’s store will be eligible for severance, including outplacement resources.”
Clearance sales at the affected stores are expected to begin this month.
The College Mall location will be the third Macy’s store to close in the last four years. The retailer announced in 2018 it was shuttering its location at Honey Creek Mall in Terre Haute, followed by the Glendale Town Center location in Indianapolis in 2019.
