The day-long event will feature the Statehouse Education Center ribbon-cutting ceremony, the dedication of the Bicentennial Plaza and the culmination of the Bicentennial Torch Relay.
The Statehouse Education Center, which is located on the first floor of the library, will feature "dynamic and participatory" exhibits for tens of thousands of visitors each year. The state says exhibits will support social studies and language arts curricula for students and the center will provide follow-up resources to teachers, students and their families.
"The goal of the Education Center is to create a spark of interest and promote literacy," said Jessica Robertson, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Administration. "The Center, along with the other Bicentennial capital projects, will serve as a physical legacy of the Bicentennial for many years to come."
The IDOA and the Indiana Arts Commission will also dedicate the Bicentennial Plaza and two public art pieces that have been installed at the plaza. The pieces, "Enduring Flame" by New York artist Osman Akan and "Time Flow" by Bloomington artist Dale Enochs, were chosen out of more than 100 submissions from 29 states and the District of Columbia.
Hoosier Homecoming will also serve as the final destination for the Bicentennial Torch Relay, which began September 9 in the state’s original capitol of Corydon. The bicentennial torch, built at Purdue University, has traveled through all 92 counties and will the relay will end at the steps of the statehouse.
Hoosier Homecoming will run from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. You can find more information about the event by clicking here.
