Hoosier Airports Awarded Infrastructure Grants

Subscribe NowThe U.S. Department of Transportation says it will award nearly $17 million in infrastructure grants to several airports throughout Indiana. The funding is part of the DOT’s Airport Improvement Program.
The grants are part of the first allotment of the program, which will total $3.18 billion when complete. The DOT says the projects that receive funding are important to the safety and efficiency of the system of airports in the U.S.
“If you want a strong transportation system, you have to invest in airport infrastructure,” said Secretary Chao. “Airports are the backbone of aviation. These communities are going to reap greater safety, efficiency, and economic dividends for years to come.”
The Indiana recipients include:
- Anderson Municipal-Darlington Field: $2.7 million for runway rehabilitation and lighting
- Fort Wayne International: $5.4 million for runway rehabilitation
- Gary/Chicago International: $4.75 million for runway rehabilitation
- Eagle Creek Airpark (Indianapolis): $2.8 million for taxiway construction
- Kokomo Municipal: $360,000 for taxiway rehabilitation
- Paoli Municipal: $832,500 for runway extension
