Homestead Dairy LLC plans to invest $14 million into a new 400,000 square-foot robotic facility.
Homestead Dairy is investing $6 million to build the facility and $8 million to purchase 24 state-of-the-art robotic milking machines. The company says the new facility and equipment will improve efficiency, milking capacity and the health and well-being of its 3,500 dairy cows.
The expansion is being made thanks to a tax abatement recently passed by the Marshall County Council. The company is adding 1,400 more cows as part of the expansion and says the investment will help retain its 42 current employees and hire more workers, though a specific number was not released.
The family-owned and operated company began with nine dairy cows in 1945.
