More than 350 homes and nearly 20 businesses across 40 counties will gain high-speed broadband internet access as a result of nearly $1.7 million awarded in the 13th round of the Indiana Connectivity Program.
Under the program of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, internet providers receive financial assistance to extend broadband service lines in areas they otherwise might not. The first round of the awards occurred in April 2022, and more than $13 million has been awarded to date.
“Making sure every Hoosier has access to reliable broadband, no matter where they live, is a big part of our commitment to building a stronger, more connected Indiana,” Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said in a news release announcing the latest funding awards. “The Indiana Connectivity Program is helping us close the gap, giving families the tools they need and helping businesses grow. Every round of funding brings us closer to our goal of a fully connected and thriving state.”
The 13th round of funding awards encompasses 353 households and 18 businesses. The state is providing $1,660,949 toward the effort, and nine companies are providing $6,107,393. The nine companies are Airwave Networks LLC, Berry Communications, Joink Inc., Mainstream Fiber Networks, Mulberry Telecommunications, On-Ramp Indiana Inc., PSC Fiber, Surf Internet and Washington County Rural Telephone.
“Access to broadband is critically important in today’s world, whether for individuals at home or business owners,” said Fred Glynn, executive director of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. “Seeing more and more Hoosiers get connected is great for our state’s future.”
Residents and business owners who lack internet connectivity can note their interest in the program by entering their address and information into the Next Level Connections portal.
Broadband providers must complete their projects within nine months of the contract date, OCRA said.
