F.C. Tucker Co. says pended home sales in central Indiana increased 5 percent in March. Nearly 3,200 homes were sold in the 15-county region, up from just over 3,000 during the same month the previous year. 

Of the 15 counties tracked by F.C. Tucker, eight saw an increase in home sales last month, with Boone and Hendricks counties seeing the largest jumps at 15.1 and 12.8 percent, respectively. The company says the average year-to-date home price for the region increased to $185,819, a 7 percent increase over the same month in 2016.

"Due to a lack of winter, the 2017 home-selling season started about two months earlier than usual, leading to a strong housing market for spring and a positive outlook for the entire year," said Jim Litten, chief executive officer of F.C. Tucker Co.

 F.C. Tucker says the number of active listings dropped 18.3 percent in March to 7,844. Madison County saw the biggest drop in active listings at 29.8 percent, while Jennings County was the only one see an uptick in active listings at more than 44 percent.
