Governor Eric Holcomb will speak with regional leaders from throughout the state Wednesday to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Regional Cities Initiative. The event comes a day after the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority recommended two projects for Regional Cities funding.
Indiana selected north central, northeast and southwest Indiana to each receive $42 million in matching funds as part of the first phase of the Regional Cities Initiative. The state says those regions’ plans include more than $2 billion in quality of place projects, with more than half of those efforts expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has approved 20 projects so far for funding. In addition, the IEDC awarded $150,000 planning grants to the four additional regions that participated in the initiative (central, east central and northwest Indiana as well as the Wabash Valley region) to support continued regional development efforts.
Meantime, the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority is recommending $6.9 million in funding for The Landing and $1 million for The Clyde Theatre Renovation Project, both in Allen County. Both of those requests will now go before the IEDC.
