Holcomb: Shift From Obamacare to More State Control

Subscribe NowGovernor Eric Holcomb is calling on federal lawmakers to work closely with states and give Indiana greater control over its health care subsidies. In an open letter to Hoosiers, Holcomb says the requests are a response to ever-changing debates and proposals related to Republican and Trump administration efforts to repeal or replace the Affordable Care Act.
He says more state control would help Indiana more effectively implement and adjust to "new funding realities" of any future changes to national health care laws. Holcomb added "Health care will not be reformed by maintaining the status quo. That’s simply said but harder to swallow when you see the effects on individuals. I urge the Senate to continue the important work of repealing and replacing Obamacare. Fixing the root problems in our system will be difficult, but as history has shown, Indiana is well positioned to lead the way with solutions tailored to our unique population." He also called for more federal resources for handling the opioid crisis at the state level.
Overall, Holcomb says the potential impact of proposed legislation continues to fluctuate week-to-week and "no one yet knows" how it will eventually look, but says the nation "cannot continue to ignore the problems with our nation’s current health care system." He adds "Obamacare is crumbling under its own weight" and says states are in the best position find solutions.
