Governor Eric Holcomb has named Wesley Bennett commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance. He has served as Plainfield clerk-treasurer for 12 years. Bennett is completing his third term in office. He previously served as assistant branch manager for First National Bank and Trust and held sales and operations positions for Bank One. Bennett is a member of the Accelerate Indiana Municipalities board and vice president of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers. He will resign those roles, as well as that of Hendricks County Republican Party chairman, once he is officially appointed DLGF commissioner.

He succeeds Courtney Schaafsma, who has been nominated by Indiana Office of Management and Budget Director Micah Vincent to lead the state’s Distressed Unit Appeals Board. Schaafsma is the longest-serving commissioner in DLGF’s history, holding the role since 2014.
