Hogsett’s Next Step: ‘A Lot of Listening’

Subscribe NowFormer United States Attorney Joe Hogsett says stepping down from that office gives him more of an opportunity to attack Indianapolis' “serious challenges,” including crime and education. Hogsett plans to file paperwork to form an exploratory committee for a possible run for mayor. He says Indianapolis leaders must work with the business community to provide meaningful jobs that keep families out of poverty. Hogsett has already started in a new role as partner at Bose McKinney & Evans LLP. Hogsett says entering the private sector allows him to speak with community, education and business leaders as well as Indianapolis residents about issues other than just public safety.
He says he will spend the next several months traveling the city and listening to community members as well as working to establish himself as a meaningful partner at Bose McKinney & Evans.
Hogsett began serving as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana in 2010. He announced his resignation last month.
During his tenure, he says the office set new records for the number of defendants charged and total number of criminal convictions. Hogsett says the office also led the nation in average sentence length for criminal defendants.
