Hogsett Unveils Job Ready Indy

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says the new Job Ready Indy program will help ensure the city’s youth will be prepared for job opportunities. The program, developed along with EmployIndy and the Indy Chamber, was unveiled during an event marking the third year of Hogsett’s Project Indy initiative.
Hogsett’s office says Job Ready Indy will feature workshops with various partner organizations throughout the city for which young people can enroll beginning in March. Participants can earn up to six badges, each of which will focus on different skill sets and will appear on their Project Indy profiles.
"Some employers express concern about the basic skills of entry-level workers," said Michael Huber, chief executive officer of the Indy Chamber. "This badging system will not only afford peace of mind for an employer, but build a strong foundation of talent for Indianapolis as we focus our efforts on inclusive growth to meet local labor needs."
Project Indy, which launched in 2016, aims to connect 3,000 youth in the city with summer summer job opportunities in 2018. Hogsett says the goal of the program is not only provide young people with valuable job experience and useful skills, but serve as an alternative to crime and gangs.
