The initiative aims to revamp abandoned properties to create affordable housing while simultaneously demolishing homes that are beyond repair and often facilitate crime.
The city is working with many departments for the “2,000 Homes” initiative, including the Departments of Metropolitan Development and Business and Neighborhood Services to coordinate demolition, rehabilitation, repair, sale, or new construction.
Bruce Baird, executive director of the city’s partner on the project Renew Indianapolis, said the initiative is “having a transformative effect on neighborhoods throughout Indianapolis, each property we touch and partner to rebuild into a brand new home not only positively impacts the families who live there, but also their neighborhoods and the greater community as a whole. Proud homeowners build strong communities, and we are excited to be a part of this revitalization.”
