During a Thursday unveiling event, Matt Fidler said the 35,000 square-foot facility would be Furrion’s "gateway of technology to the U.S. recreational vehicle, home, yacht and business industries." The company has its headquarters in China, as well as a presence in Europe, Australia and the U.S.
Furrion manufactures and markets luxury items ranging from kitchen appliances to fireplaces, "smart" bathroom technology to home entertainment equipment like televisions, electronic components to solar power gear, and even its newest endeavor — the "Prosthesis" exo-bionic mech racing suit. The company debuted the suit in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and said training for mech "pilots" and research and development for new versions of the technology will all be housed in Elkhart.
The company’s product lines are designed for use in the luxury RVs, homes, offices and boats. Furrion has recently gained attention for showcasing its Elysium RV, which features a helicopter and landing pad and a hot tub, among other big ticket items.
Prior to the Thursday unveiling, the company said 30 employees will initially be housed at the new northern Indiana hub, a number it plans to eventually grow to 80.
In 2015, Furrion hooked up with Elkhart-based Lippert Components Inc., a subsidiary of Drew Industries Inc. (NYSE: DW), to distribute and sell its products to RV consumers.
The new facility is located across from the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum.
